Mobility, Di Caterina (Alis): "Intermodal transport cheaper and safer"

Rome, July 3 (Adnkronos) – "This festival leads us to talk and delve into the issues of environmental sustainability and we do so with great pleasure, looking especially at the aspect of European regulations that, sometimes, sacrifice economic and social sustainability to optimize sustainability. In this context, intermodal transport, that is, last-mile transport, through a load-breaking system – which involves the passage of goods from a warehouse to a truck and then from the truck to a port or railway dock – certainly means enhancing transport, making it less expensive and safer".

This was stated by Marcello Di Caterina, vice president and general manager of Alis, the Sustainable Intermodality Logistics Association, at the presentation of the third edition of 'Eco Festival of Sustainable Mobility and Smart Cities', which will take place on 16 and 17 September 2025 at the Piazza di Spagna Congress Centre. The event is designed to take stock of the state of the art of the ecological transition in the mobility of people and goods in our country.

The Sustainable Intermodality Logistics Association today does not only deal with transport, as Di Caterina explains: “Through a series of activities related to services, we wanted to make a very important focus on digitalisation and artificial intelligence, areas strongly affected by the contributions of the Pnrr for the construction of the national logistics platform which” thanks to an important and strategic use of data “will offer information that will serve to have a greater capacity for knowledge of the 'bottle caps', i.e. the unnecessary transport difficulties and the nodes to avoid, rather than those to use”.

“We are facing an era of total transformation where, beyond the global scenarios linked to tariffs on one side and wars on the other, the markets are always ready to adapt to difficulties – he concludes – but there must be the ability to fuel mutual efforts”.
